Lauranne Thomas is a French Osteopath who graduated from the Sutherland Osteopathic College after five years of full time osteopathic training. The course covered a broad spectrum of osteopathic approaches including cranial, visceral, fascial and structural. Lauranne treats the body as an integrated whole and may use any combination of these approaches according to the presenting symptoms, age and health status of the patient.
Lauranne specialises in Cranial Osteopathy which is a gentle and effective technique suitable for all ages. It is, however, particularly helpful for women during pregnancy and after the birth as well as for babies and children. Indications where cranial osteopathy can help babies include colic, bloating, ear infections and irritability/disturbed sleep patterns. In adults and children, indications include nausea, tinnitus, dizziness, headaches and of course, musculo-skeletal aches and pains.
Lauranne also specialises in Visceral Osteopathy which helps restore mobility of internal organs for abdominal/pelvic symptoms. Indications are bloating, constipation, heartburn and pelvic discomfort.
Lauranne has consecrated a year of study focused on osteopathy for babies and pre/post natal mothers. The various discomforts experienced during this sensitive period of life usually cannot be treated by orthodox medication. Lauranne decided to specialise in this field in order to help mothers and babies deal with these discomforts in a natural way.
Pregnancy represents enormous physical, hormonal and emotional changes which take place over a relatively short period of time which can impose physical strain on all the organs and tissues. Lauranne combines visceral and cranial osteopathic approaches which are a particularly gentle way of working with the body’s own natural mechanism for releasing and re-balancing tensions, without force.
The birth of a baby is one of the most stressful events of its life. The baby is subjected to strong compressions and has to turn and twist as it squeezes through the bony pelvis. For a difficult birth (ventouse, forceps …) the baby head hasn’t the ability to mould and change shape in response to the stresses of the labour. This can leave the baby with symptoms such as sickness , colic, irritability and screaming, breastfeeding difficulty, and sleep disturbance. Lauranne diagnoses and treats the stresses and strains that may be interfering with the health of a baby.
The post natal mother is often under-treated , as focus tends to be on the health of the baby and often we are unaware that much post natal discomfort is actually treatable. Following a pregnancy, health issues can result : Back pain , abdominal discomfort following C section, breast soreness associated with a feeding baby, fatigue, headaches, urinary stress , bowel issues, etc. Cranial and visceral osteopathy can help the mother’s body to re-find its natural position by releasing all the tensions present due to both the pregnancy and birth strains.
